Walking in Sardinia is fantastic, and the Ogliastra region offers some of the best and most varied walks, with hundreds of routes for walkers, ranging from spectacular coastal walks— from the many easy walks to the “Sentiero Selvaggio Blu”, a multi-day expedition involving climbing and abseiling—as well as walks on the Gennargentu mountains overlooking Ogliastra. The highest point, Punta La Marmora, 1834m, is reached by en easy walk ...
Ogliastra, a wild and poetical land:
the sea, the rocks, limestone towers, cliffs,
the Gennargentu forests, the beaches,
the inlets, ancient traditions.
The many oleasters in the area are
perhaps the origin of its name.
It is rich in holm-oaks, solitary
junipers and yews, where moufflons
and wild boars live.
The Ogliastra's territory is enclosed, in three inner sides, from a mount crown that degrades until meeting the tirrenica center-oriental coast. This conformation has forced this angle of Sardinia in a historical isolation having earned itself the name of "island in the Island". Also for this reason Ogliastra has succeeded to maintain its pearls intact.
Undoubtedly, this is one of Sardinia’s most beautiful areas. It is a varied territory to discover, with paths and fascinating mountains of Gennargentu massif and an extraordinary coast of beautiful beaches and inlets. The whole region is like a big amphitheatre looking toward the Tyrrhenian sea, bordered by Supramonte and Cordula di Luna river (N) and Jerzu jutting and Quirra salto hills (S). Its 1,838 sq. km. territory is characterized by plains, uplands and high mountains making the landscape particularly suggestive.
